Why weight training?
Weigh resistance training not only strengthens your muscles, ligaments, and tendons, but also strengthens your heart. Lifting weights is also a great form of cardiovascular training, because it requires a large amoun of oxygen to be burned up in a very short period of time. If exercises are performed with minimal rest between sets, then your workoug can also become very aerobic. To test this fact, just take 75% of your squat max and do a 20 rep set then see how out of breath you get!
Another advantage to weight training is that not only does your body burn calories while exercising,, but it also burns calories while you sleep. Sound too good to be true? When working out with weights, you actually tear down the muscles. These muscles are rebuilt (so to speak) by utilizing the protein in your diet while you sleep. This process requires a lot of energy, this burning calories.
